God is My Salvation! (Free Digi Stamp)

Today's post is my last as September guest designer for the Word Art Wednesday challenge blog. Oh, I've enjoyed this month so very much and making the cards was so therapeutic for me. I love being able to change the colors of the verses to coordinate with the card I'm making. I LOVE the color of red and this blue together. Never tire of it.

No Goodbyes!

Though this is my last post as a design team member for Word Art Wednesday, I'm not saying goodbye to this fabulous group of designers. Word Art Wednesday has had a place in my heart for a long, long time. I just want to thank Karen Letchworth again (and again) for the wonderful opportunity to design for her weekly challenge blog. I've appreciated her administration of the challenge, and her beautiful heart. Her devotionals are always spot on. I want to thank all the other design team members who so faithfully offer the most gorgeous inspirations for all of us each week. And I so appreciate the beautiful renderings of scripture offered by Karen Murray. They are a joy to use on cards and I'm grateful I have a whole collection of these verses.

The one she offers for this week is simply gorgeous. It's simply designed with the most wonderful little flourishes.

As you can tell, I'm in the mood for spring. Missouri weather has been crazy. Temperatures are all over the place from 60 one day to 20 or below the next day. I'm so looking forward to watching everything thaw out and bloom!

I opted for putting this beautiful scripture on the inside of my card, right next to the note I'll write. Again I'm using a mish-mash of things from my stash and loving it. I'm committing this year to use up product already in my craftroom.

Welcome to Word Art Wednesday! This week's scripture challenge and our "anything goes" design challenge will make creating a project for a chance to win some wonderful prizes from our sponsors.

This is just a guess, but it seems there are more charitable organizations, some solid and some no doubt corrupt, that at any other time in history. Government welfare, government aided charities prolifically dot the country's social landscape. We are giving more money as a country to feed, clothe and shelter the poor than ever before. If you research it and look at some the graphs available they depict a steady and sharp increase in charitable giving. Yet the poor are still with us. Jesus said we would always have the poor. When I think of being charitable, I think of giving out of one's abundance to the poor.

Yet, it is not only the wealthy who should be charitable. Charity comes from a selfless heart and even those with very little in material wealth can be charitable. Being helpful, thoughtful and kind doesn't depend on one's bank account. In fact, some of the most selfless acts of giving can't be purchased with money or doled out from the wallet. They come from the heart.

Sometimes it is in our smallest acts of kindness that we bless others the most. The widow's mite, given with a selfless heart was worth more to Jesus than a treasure trove from someone who's heart was closed.

Just think of all the kind and thoughtful acts of charity that don't require any money...I can think of a ton. And each would bless the neighbor, the widow down the street, the lonely resident at the nursing home, the bullied child next door....the list goes on. Sometimes the most precious thing we can give another person is a hug, a kind word, a helping hand, or just our time. I know I could be so much more charitable in ways that would bless others, fill their hearts with the love of Christ and point them to a Savior who provides for their eternal life. Wouldn't it be a fun challenge to add to our day or week more charitable acts?

Word Art Wednesday: A Gown of Righteousness

Welcome to Word Art Wednesday and our "anything goes" challenge. Our beautiful scripture for this week (you are welcome to use it), so poignantly points to God's amazing grace toward us.

Today is my wedding anniversary. When we celebrate our years together, we obviously talk about how well suited we are for each other...what a fabulous job God did in bringing us together! We've had so much fun partnering in parenting, ministry, work, and even collaborated on a book published a few years ago. We work well together. We are a team. What one of us lacks the other has in abundance. (God did that!) We've sharpened one another, challenged one another and grown closer together each year. We are best friends. When we married, we asked God to make our marriage a picture of His grace. I believe He answered our prayers. We've received His grace again and again, and we've stood before our family, friends and the congregations we served through the years and have shared the story of His grace to others. Oh, my! Where would I be without His grace?

If I followed my heart, this would be too long a post. I love talking about God's grace...the unmerited favor He extends to the sinner's heart. "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8) As we accept His grace and trust in His lordship over our hearts and lives, an amazing transformation occurs. Christ exchanges our sin-stained garment of flesh for an eternal robe of righteousness. This truth should absolutely send us to our knees in grateful, humbled thanksgiving.

If you haven't read the grace-love story in the book of Hosea, it is worth the read...far better than any romance novel on the shelves today. The story is the biblical account of Hosea and Gomer. Gomer, married to Hosea, had an addiction to men...the wrong kind of men...many of them. She literally spent herself...her dignity, her beauty, and her heart looking for love in all the wrong places. Nothing satisfied, and the more she searched the more debased she became. Finally she was standing on the auction block, a literal sex slave, dirtied in every way possible and about to be sold for more soiling of her soul. In the crowd that day, was her faithful husband. He purchased her back, walked up to her and lovingly covered her nakedness and shame with his cloak. What grace, what love! In one act of selfless sacrifice, he took upon himself her shame, and lifted her into his arms to take her home. Leaves you a little breathless, doesn't it girlfriends? Read our verse again...

Hosea is a foreshadowing of our loving Savior, who while we were still covered in the shame of our own sin, endured the cross in our place, and steps down to where we are in our guilt and offers to cover us in a sparkling white robe of righteousness. What we deserve is to wear a blackened garment with a large A (for adulterer, The Scarlet Letter) emblazoned on the front. Instead, He redeemed us, purchased us back from our enslavement to sin, and lovingly took us into His protective arms....forever. What a love story! Who wouldn't want to run into His arms? Who wouldn't say yes to that offer?

Easter is the story of God's grace. It's the account of His sacrifice, of His love for us while we were yet sinners, and of His victory over the penalty of sin....spiritual death. That robe of righteousness is more than a pretty garment. It brings LIFE! As we wear His righteousness, God sees not our sin, but the robe of Christ's own righteousness wrapped around us. Not a hint of our sin reaches His eyes....in Christ, we are whiter than snow. Our sin is cast as far as the east is from the west.

May you experience anew the grace and mercy of Christ as you celebrate this Easter, the observance of His resurrection, and His victory over all sin. I hope you will kneel in grateful praise and adoration of His love for you. And I pray that you will literally feel His righteousness wrapping around you and lifting all guilt and shame from your heart. Be clean, be new, be His!

Word Art Wednesday: His Peace is Our Peace

Another Wednesday--they pass so quickly--and another fabulous opportunity to share your projects with everyone. I also had the joy of writing the devotion for this week's challenge. Finding comfort in this verse ministered to my heart this week, and I hope it will comfort you too. I've included my devotion here but do visit our challenge blog for more inspiration and to see what our sponsors have for you.

When It Rains, It Pours: You Need an Umbrella!

On any given day, we might long for a few peaceful moments as our lives seem to get increasingly hectic. No doubt you’ve had times described by the “when it rains, it pours” cliché. Too many deadlines to keep, too many activities to juggle, too many people demanding more of you...and suddenly you feel like you are in a debilitating deluge getting drenched.

Peace—we grab it where and when we can, we hold it over our heads to deflect the downpour for just a few moments—a 15 minute soak in the tub is a luxury, a quiet evening out with your husband is delightful but rare, an evening when you find you are alone in the house and you just sit to soak up the quiet. Peace. We long for it because we spend our days hurrying and worrying, don’t we? There are so many things in our world to worry about. What are your umbrellas? What helps you stay dry during the storms of life?

I have to confess, one of my umbrellas is Pinterest. Pinterest!!?? I told you I was confessing! I spend nearly an hour on most days leisurely browsing pins as though I were strolling through the cool and quiet marble halls of an art gallery. I pin nearly everything I see. Pinning makes me happy. Pinning makes me momentarily believe that I could re-create what I see, makes me dream of having the time and the talent to pull off those perfect projects. Pinterest is my get-away. The problem is, I rarely make what I pin. Perhaps I create a CASED card now and then. But mostly I just pin and dream. All too soon I’m grabbed from my reverie as the rains of reality start soaking through my umbrella and I have to make a dash back into life dodging deep puddles as I go. Life gets muddy; the peace doesn’t last.

Any peace, any quiet refuge we find in this world won’t last. We can’t expect it to. The world isn’t capable of giving lasting peace. No spa day, no shopping-for-just-me days, no pills, no get-aways, no counselor—they are all umbrellas that tear under the weight of pelting torrents of real-life drama. The rain always comes again. We need a peaceful shelter that will last.

That’s why Jesus offers the teaching in our challenge verse, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:27) What an amazing promise. The peace that Jesus offers to us can eliminate our troubled hearts! Notice He doesn’t imply His peace removes trouble from our lives. Troubles will still rain down, no doubt. But His peace will heal a troubled and fearful heart. That is a shelter worth seeking. As we come into deep relationship with the Savior, surrendering self and sin, we come under His shelter.

More than an umbrella, His peace is water-proof armor. We can move through the storms of life and not get wet! “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” (Isaiah 43:2) Peace. Walking through floods and not getting wet. Marching through rivers and crossing on dry land. Standing in our fiery furnaces and not getting singed. That is the power of the peace of Christ. The floods are there, and rivers rush by us, fires sweep through our lives. Still, the peace of Christ calms our hearts, fuels our faith, strengthens our resolve, and moves us forward. Peace, not as the world gives, but His peace. The only peace. Is His peace your peace? If you trust Him, your troubled heart can know His power, His presence and His amazing peace.

For my sample, I paper-pieced the umbrella and boots, and colored the raincoat and jeans to match the colors in the paper pack that coordinates with this scripture set. I also used the a sheet from the Sunshine and Rain paper pack, but altered the color slightly for this card.

Word Art Wednesday: Only the Cross

Word Art Wednesday is here and I know you will love the DT samples on our challenge blog. You'll want to play along this week by creating your own uplifting, encouraging project to link on WAW. It's so simple...always anything goes as long as it is wholesome and uplifting. Just a quick reminder...nothing dark (like some Halloween images).

Our Scripture Verse:

Karen M. (Papercraft Memories) has created a straightforward, simple, but beautifully profound graphic for our verse. God's Word brings the believer's heartfelt cry into one succinct verse in this passage. It simply conveys that everything in us should bring glory and honor to what Christ did on the cross. Because of what He did, taking my sin, reconciling me to God, I crucify all other things that might become gods to me. I die to the things of this world, and take up new life in Christ. It is an amazing truth, nearly incomprehensible were it not for faith.

My Card Sample:

Because the scripture graphic is simple in design I wanted to keep my card simple. I used some new Stampin' Up! designer paper, recolored the sentiment to brown, and used a cross that's in a brand new set, Irish Blessings.

I did quite a bit of inking and distressing....not heavy, but on every element. I generally ink the edges of anything I cut out, like the cross, so I don't have the white "cut edges" showing. The cross and sentiment are popped up on foam dots.

I cannot even tell you how long I've had this metal filigree embellishment. I don't think it would be much of an exaggeration to say I've had it forever! LOL. But I thought it offered the perfect finishing touch to the cross. The scripture is on Naturals Ivory cardstock and is sponged with SU So Saffron and Tim Holtz's Distress ink in Vintage Photo (my favorite distressing color).

The month is not over, so it's not too late to offer encouragement to your pastor since October is Pastor Appreciation Month. I really can't tell you how much that means to a pastor and his family. It doesn't have to be elaborate, and any gift is like a balm to their spirit. Pastor and their families are fighting a raging battle out there. They are accessible to their congregations 24/7, and I can tell you from personal experience as a former pastor's wife that many, many church members require help at times that call for personal sacrifice. We used to always get calls in the middle of the night, just when sitting down to watch a movie or have dinner. But pastors give unselfishly because they've been called to shepherd a flock. So send your pastor a little encouragement today if you haven't already!

Our scripture represents a challenge to live sacrificially too, casting off all the world offers and living to please God, to make our lives something that brings Him...and what He did on the cross....GLORY!
